Medical Alert Smartwatch vs Traditional Smartwatch: Safety Features Seniors Should Understand — Liferun Medical Alert

Two watches can look almost the same on the wrist and still be built for very different jobs. If you’re shopping for a parent, or for yourself, the real question isn’t which one looks nicer. It’s what happens on the day something goes wrong.

We’re Liferun, based in Bridgeview, Illinois. Our Liferun Smartwatch is a medical alert smartwatch that combines safety, connectivity, and health tracking in one device. Below are the safety questions we’d ask of any watch, a traditional smartwatch included, along with how ours answers each one.

The Safety Questions Worth Asking Before You Buy Any Watch

Each question below covers one part of what happens when someone needs help, and how the Liferun Smartwatch handles it.

When You Press for Help, Who Picks Up?

This is the first thing to check, and it matters more than any screen or band.

With the Liferun Smartwatch, one press connects you to our 24/7 dispatch center. Our average response time is under 10 seconds. Two way HD voice communication lets you talk with our team right through the watch.

From there, we follow the plan we set up with you. We can contact family and dispatch EMS, police, fire, or hospice, and our agent stays on the line until help arrives. Our agents are trained for big and small emergencies, and support is available in Spanish and other languages.

When you look at a traditional smartwatch, ask the same question. Does a press reach a staffed monitoring center, or does it go somewhere else? That answer tells you a lot.

Can the Watch Raise an Alert After a Fall?

Sometimes the person who falls can’t press anything. That’s why fall detection deserves a close look.

Automatic fall detection on the Liferun Smartwatch is optional, and it includes a cancel feature. If the watch senses a fall and you’re okay, you can cancel the alert. On our plans, fall detection is an add on per month.

For any watch you’re considering, ask two things. Where does a detected fall alert go? And can you cancel it easily if it was a false alarm?

Will Responders Know Where You Are?

Someone who’s hurt or confused may not be able to say where they are. The watch has to do that part.

The Liferun Smartwatch finds your location using GPS, WiFi, and cellular triangulation. Every plan we offer includes GPS location tracking.

Does Medical Alert Smartwatch Depend On Phone Nearby?

This one is easy to overlook. A safety watch is only useful if it can reach help on its own.

The Liferun Smartwatch runs on AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile 4G LTE networks. It works anywhere there’s sufficient cellular coverage nationwide, and every plan includes nationwide 4G LTE coverage. You don’t need a phone line or a bulky console.

With a traditional smartwatch, check whether calling for help needs a paired phone nearby or a separate cellular plan. Then picture where your parent actually spends the day: the garden, the grocery store, a walk around the block.

Where Health Tracking Fits In

The Liferun Smartwatch also includes heart rate monitoring and step tracking. Those sit on the health tracking side of the watch.

When we talk about emergency response, we mean three things: the button, the optional fall detection, and our 24/7 dispatch team. If you’re wondering how the tracking features fit your situation, ask our team before you order. For questions about a specific health condition, talk with your doctor.

What Daily Life With the Watch Looks Like

A safety watch only helps if it’s charged and on the wrist. A few practical details matter here.

Battery. The Liferun Smartwatch lasts up to 24 hours per charge. Plan on charging it daily. Voice prompts and alerts cover emergency calls, charging, and low battery, so the watch speaks up when it needs attention.

Water. It’s rated IP67, splash and shower resistant. It isn’t made for submersion.

Comfort and style. It weighs 1.4 oz and comes in black or silver with interchangeable bands.

A Wrist Option With a Longer Battery

If a daily charge sounds hard to keep up with, our Liferun Belle W is also wrist worn. It lasts up to 7 days per charge and fully recharges in 2 to 3 hours. We call to remind you when it’s time to charge.

The Belle W weighs 22g on its own. Its certified fall detection alerts dispatch even if you can’t press the button. The trade off is that the Belle W isn’t listed with heart rate monitoring or step tracking. So the choice often comes down to two questions: how much does the tracking matter, and how reliable is the daily charging routine?

What Comes in the Box and How Plans Work

The Liferun Smartwatch package includes:

  • The smartwatch with an adjustable wristband
  • A charging base, cable, and power adapter
  • A medical information card
  • A setup guide

The watch works with the Medical Alert Connect platform for easy setup and updates. Our agents walk you through setup and suggest the best protocol for your needs. They also guide you through your first test in, and you’re welcome to test in any time after that.

None of our plans require a long term contract:

  • Monthly Plan: $39.95 per month, billed monthly, cancel anytime
  • Semi Annual Plan: $34.95 per month, billed every 6 months
  • Annual Plan: $29.95 per month, billed annually

The Annual Plan adds lifetime price protection, a prorated refund if you cancel, priority customer support, and Connected Caregiver App access. Once you become a customer, your rate is locked.

Let’s Talk Through It Together

Comparing watches gets easier once you know which questions matter. If you’re weighing the Liferun Smartwatch against a traditional smartwatch, or against our Belle W, call us. Tell us about the daily routine: when they wake up, where they walk, and whether they’ll actually remember to charge every night. We’ll help you match the device and plan to the life it needs to fit.
